This is another example of using
custom made hearth, mantle, and tile pieces to remodel a
sixties fireplace. It takes precise measuring and design
to accomplish this feat. There are decisions to be made
regarding the style of mantle (we offer 38), material
(paint grade, oak, knotty pine, maple), paint color or
stain, and tile (12 choices from the mantle builder). In
addition, the fireplace insert and options are choices
to be made. In this job, the insert chosen was an Envirogas Focus with the gold bay front. We like to use
this unit since it is possible to eliminate the steel
insert surround usually needed to cover the existing
fireplace opening. Since we are able to customize the
inside opening of the tile piece, we are able to make it
small enough to avoid using the steel surround. The
result is less obviously an insert and more like a glass
door on a conventional fireplace.
Again, gas pipe, electricity, and a direct vent system
were installed in the existing fireplace.
The homeowner tore out the built in cabinet and
paneling. He sheet rocked the wall and repainted. Nice!
